Physiotherapeutic sports equipment: silent and lubrication-free linear adjustment

iglidur and drylin bearings for the silent and lubrication-free adjustment of therapeutic devices

This device from Kazemi Back Health is used for physiotherapeutic treatment of back problems. The individual elements must be precisely adjusted to the patient's individual body dimensions to enable linear movement. As this adjustment has to be carried out several times a day, the mechanism should be smooth-running and quiet. The height adjustment of the head and back supports and the adjustment of the hand holder were therefore realised with lubrication-free drylin linear guides. The reliable and quiet rotation of the seat is made possible by an iglidur PRT polymer slewing ring bearing.

Profile

  • What was needed: drylin W profile rail systems, iglidur G plain bearings, iglidur PRT slewing ring bearings
  • Requirements: They were looking for controlled adjustment options that would work as quietly and completely lubrication-free as possible, while also being aesthetically pleasing.
  • Industry: medical equipment
  • Success for the customer: With the solution consisting of drylin linear bearings and iglidur plain bearings as well as a slewing ring bearing for the rotation of the seat, a solution was found that enables a discreet and aesthetically pleasing adjustment and at the same time is acoustically dampened and free of any lubricating grease.

Problem

This device is used in medicine for the treatment and prevention of back problems associated with the spine. It consists of various adjustable modules for the back, legs and arms and the patient's correct position, which must be individually adapted to the person.
The manufacturer was looking for a bearing solution for the linear and controlled adjustment of these sets, which should also be as quiet as possible. As the appliance is used for sanitary purposes and will always be in contact with people, the bearing solutions also had to be completely lubrication-free. Finally, the components also had to be convincing from an aesthetic point of view, so the most stylish elements possible were sought for the design of the device.

Solution

To realise the medical device, the manufacturer decided to use various linear and rotary bearing components from our product portfolio. drylin W linear guides together with carriages enable the linear bearing of the sets, while iglidur G plain bearings are also used in the adjustable modules on the back and legs.
With this solution, a discreet and aesthetically pleasing linear displacement was achieved that is also acoustically dampened and free of any lubricating grease. The use of an iglidur PRT slewing ring bearing is also provided for adjusting the seat, which should be rotated.
